Rocking in the free world

The other day I was playing guitar and Graham asked if he could take a turn.

He banged away for a few minutes and was so proud of himself. Very cute.

In fact, it warmed my heart to the point where I just couldn't bear to tell him that, while fun, the above picture usually leads to....

...which, of course, inevitably leads to...

Oh well.

All about Jakey

Jakey Jake is going through all sorts of changes recently. His little brain is just on fire, learning new words and skills every day. It's pretty amazing to watch.

So, in honor of Jakey, I dedicate today's blog to him.

First up, Jakey's recent days of thunder. The wind tunnel hair kills me.

Now, an admission. Graham has taken to beating on his brother a bit, a practice that I can't seem to stop, but one that pisses me off to no end. Here is something I probably shouldn't have let happen, but thoroughly enjoyed.

Now, a little love dancing to salsa with Mom.

This kid is starting to look a LOT like me, and not just because of the paunchy belly and iffy fashion sense.

I was very proud of this little man for walking almost a half mile with his lion. They have since eloped to Kenya.

Impossibly cute baby butt.

Brotherly love in between senseless tackling sessions.

2012?

Grahambo is setting up an exploratory committee to look into running in 2012. He has the looks and charisma, but the stump speech might need a little work.

Ahoy!

As part of my futile attempt at potty training, I promised Grahambo I would buy him a pirate outfit if he started trying in earnest to use the toilet.

Here he is modeling one of his options at Julian's. This looks cute and all, but imagine being hit in the arm with a plastic sword 5000 times while he yells "Arg".  It loses a bit of its charm.

In Law Invasion

Sorry for no posts last week, but Grandma Big K was in town. Of course, this meant lots of extra work for me - like ignoring my childcare responsibilities, sleeping late and hitting a matinee of True Grit. It's a tough life, but someone has to live it.

Anywho, this week we are back on track with the children getting back at me in spades. Graham is steadfastly refusing to cooperate with my potty training efforts, no matter how many bribes I throw his way. It's kind of confusing and frustrating, especially since I literally can't think of a place I wouldn't poop for an endless supply of m&m's and buzz lightyear toys. He's a stubborn kid when he wants to be, which some people say reminds them of me. I however, refuse to believe it and never ever will, no matter how many times they try to convince me.

Jakey is keeping up his end by having another respiratory infection and sleepcoughing. That's right, he coughs all night long while being sound asleep. And not just a quiet respectful cough. No, he lets out these long hacking trucker coughs that grab the parent center of my brain and shake it mercilessly. So, I end up going to check on him every half hour or so and find him happily asleep. Good stuff.

Oh well, here's some pictures:

My new definition of rockstar....

For those about to rock, we salute you

Someday I envision having the following conversation with Graham.

G: Daddy, I want to be just like you
J: Overweight and underemployed?
G: No
J: Quick to anger and slow to forgive?
G: No
J: Afraid of being wrongly convicted of a crime and sent to a severe penal colony where the other inmates mercilessly harass you?
G: No
J: Well, I'm stumped
G: I want to play music

We'll see if that talk actually materializes. In the meantime, Graham has expressed some interest in visiting music stores. So we've been hitting up local shops and I've been letting him take a shot with various instruments. No pressure, just throwing the music poop at the wall to see what sticks.

So far, this has been the big winner. Look out John Bonham.

Hats

Mr. Graham is all about dress up these days. Loyal readers will of course know that he loves him some Batman costume, but he is branching out every day. Recently he has been insanely into hats, especially a $20 straw hat he conned me into buying him at Gap kids (I'm a sucker).

Anywho, he wears it everywhere now and is quite the dashing young man, tallying bananas left and right.

"Do I mumble? I oughta sock you back to nineteen tickety two!"
I can haz hatz too?
Unrelated but disgusting. The kid likes pasta.
